Around these parts, we love us some classic Nintendo. From the NES to the DS, Nintendo has been making commercials (CMs as they say in Japan) for most of their systems, games, and accessories. Here we bring you three of the best classic CMs for the Famicom! Enjoy the CMs, everyone.
Metroid
Our first video is the original commercial for Famicom Disk System version of Metroid. You could tell the makers of the CM really wanted to make you feel like it was you, not Samus, running down those creepy halls, hunting down Mother Brain. This dream was of course realised by Metroid Prime for the Gamecube some 16 years after this was filmed.
ROB Robot
The winner for most useless, yet coolest, accessory for a game console is......ROB! Nintendo only made a whopping 2 games to support ROB, Gyromite and Stack Up. Each game even had custom attachments you would build around the ROB just to even play. The movement of the ROB unit itself was very, very slow, required batteries, and simply wasn't much fun. These factors turned away gamers by the dozens. ROB's next appearance in playable form wouldn't be until Mario Kart DS in which ROB was an unlockable character including a kart based on his Stack Up accessory kit!
Doki Doki Panic
For our final video, we are proud to present to you Doki Doki Panic, the game that the U.S. would come to know as Super Mario Bros 2. Of course, the American SMB 2 was known as SMB USA in Japan, which already has a SMB 2, which eventually made it over to America as the SMB Lost Levels. Confused? Doki Doki Panic was only released on the Famicom Disc System in Japan.
