2007 is coming to a close, so Famitsu surveyed gamers and retailers alike to find out what impressed them the most. Given the publisher's dominance in the Japanese market, It probably won't surprise you to learn that the kanji of the year is the "nin" from Nintendo.

Question 1: Which game publisher impressed you the most?

This was certainly an impressive showing for Sony beating out the likes of Konami and Namco Bandai to reach the top five. Now if they could just start releasing some triple A titles for the PS3.

Any which way you look at these numbers, Sony is in trouble. Not only is Nintendo winning the console wars in the hearts and minds of retailers and gamers, but Japanese gamers rated the PS3 dead last behind the unpopular Xbox 360. Metal Gear Solid 4 couldn't get here fast enough for Sony.

1. "Nin" for Nintendo - picked for the dominance of the Wii and the NDS.
2. "Shin" for new - as in a new generation of gaming.
3. "I" for ishoku, which means to port - to some 2007 was the year of the ports.
4. "Dou" for movement having the dual meaning of playing hand held games on the go and movement while playing the Wii.
5. "Ka" for karu, which means to hunt as in Monster Hunter.
What about "kane" as in money - the kind that Nintendo is printing these days with the NDS and Wii.
