In Japan, Tecmo held its annual press conference during which the company announced its plans for 2008. By far and away, Tecmo's biggest announcement involved the big N and yet another Playstation franchise moving to the Wii...
Hint: It's not Tecmo Super Bowl...although that might be even more awesome.
Nintendo will be publishing and even participating in the development of the fourth installment of the Fatal Frame series. Although Tecmo, Nintendo and Grasshopper Manufacture will all be involved in the production, Nintendo will be throwing its large amounts of cash reserves at all the marketing aspects of the game, and will promote Fatal Frame agressively in the lead up to the planned Summer of 2008 launch. And as Nintendo is investing development and cash resources into the game, as expected, Fatal Frame 4 will be exclusive to the Nintendo Wii.
The official title of the game is Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen. In English please: Fatal Frame: The Mask of A Lunar Eclipse. Tecmo officials didn't release any specific game play details and made only vague references to the story, stating that the word "memory" will be key to game play. Tecmo also commented that the company hopes gamers will be excited about the rebirth of the Fatal Frame series on the Wii.
PG's Take: As Fatal Frame has now become exclusive to the graphically inferior Wii, gamers may be concerned about the direction of the franchise. Will it be dumbed down for casual gamers? Will the use of the Wii-mote be gimicky? Or will the game be Leden.........wait for it.......
........dary. After viewing the screenshots, and considering the all-star cast of talent involved in the production of the game, we're opting for the latter.
With Monster Hunter 3 and Fatal Frame 4 moving to the Wii, the loss of exclusivity of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, and SquareEnix's adament denial that FF XIII is scheduled to be release in 2008, Sony must feel the pressure to get its ship righted soon.
