It's not all doom and gloom for Sony in the land of the rising sun. Thanks in part to the release of Koei's Bladestorm, the PS3 received a bump in sales for the last week in August. For the first time in five weeks the PS3 finished fourth in software sales. The bad news? The PS3 knocked off Sony's own PSP to take the four spot. Even worse news? Continue reading to find out.
The even worse news for Sony is the fact that the Nintendo Wii nearly out performed the combined sales of the PS2, PS3 and the PSP. As for the Nintendo DS? It's chugging along as the system has sold through over 100,000 units for the 22nd consecutive week.
As for software sales, the last-gen PS2 is holding its own against the Nintendo onslaught, but the PSP is in trouble with a mere 4.5% market share compared to the 54% market share of the NDS. Sony is going to need more from third party publishers than just Monster Hunter if the PSP is going to remain competitive in Japan.
