Read along for a Japanese blogger's perspective on the upcoming release of Guitar Hero III, the first game in the series to be released in Japan. The number of bundles being shipped to retailers in Japan is shockingly low. Baby steps.... we thinks.
In Japan, Guitar Freaks (Konami) has forever dominated guitar-themed music games. But in the birth land of Rock’n Roll, Guitar Hero holds down the roost. With over 70 tracks included, this isn’t even all of the songs. Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Scorpion, Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kiss, Metallica, Sex Pistols – an amazing list recognizable to generations of rock fans. Bundled with the game, the guitar controller, Gibson Les Paul for PS3 and Kramer for PS2, has a realistic look/feel. The guitars that appear within the game are also Gibson models.
Speaking of the bundled guitar controllers, what really catches the eye is the number (or lack of) of units bound for stores. The game is virtually unknown in Japan but throughout the rest of the world it’s a million+ seller. The initial number of bundles set for market is extremely limited – 20,000 PS2 bundles and 8,000 PS3. The guitar controllers are expected to be sold separately as well but volumes have not been specified.
Compared to Guitar Freaks, this title seems to have more appeal among older gamers – it will make a great Christmas gift for the old man with the guitar boy still trapped inside.

Expect the guitars volumes to be at least half of that of the ps2 volume. Why by half? Makes sense that the guitar would be a limited commodity to the Guitar Hero Franchise, and with this new guitar in the mix being wireless - it'll be gone in a flash. So get your hands on it ASAP when it comes out.

My Friend picked up this Japanese version for the Wii console up on 25th May in Hong kong. I was surprised! He told me the store said it had only been out for one week. The last one he bought had to be taken back as his console is Japanese, and at that time GHIII had only been released in USA/Ntsc and Pal/Eur/Aus versions. The songs titles and menus are in english - the nintendo wifi connect screen is in Japanese. The next night we were up and rocking across the net with friend codes. What I did notice - when I took my Guitar with me to Hong Kong last week for some personal co-op play, is that I noticed this Japanese version has the three missing songs that were on the Xbox/Ps versions but not the Wii releases.
