Since it's release September 20, the Slim PSP has been in hot pursuit of the DS in the sales charts, even notching a 3 week run at the top. Things are heating up in Japan! In preparation for its high noon hand held Holiday showdown with the DS, Sony is beefing up its Slim PSP lineup with yet another color: Deep Red.

Shown above, the system will be released in two separate packs in Japan:
Value Pack (22,800 yen) -
which includes a pouch, strap, cloth and 32MB memory stick
One Seg TV Pack (29,800 yen) -
which includes One Seg TV Tuner (Japan only), pouch, stand, strap, cloth,
and 1GB memory stick.
To date, the Karu-P, as the Slim PSP is called by aficionados in Japan, has sold over 700,000 units since launch. Since the original launch in December 2004, Sony has moved a respectable 6,500,000 units in their homeland (versus about 20 million DS's for Nintendo...yeah, ok there's more hot pursuit needed). Boosted by their new entry Deep Red, SCE is forecasting sales of the PSP to clip the 8,000,000 mark by year end. Not too shabby!
With the addition of Deep Red, the Karu-P lineup now runs 7 colors deep in Japan: black, white, pink, purple, silver, blue, and now red (versus 3 colors in the US).
