Calling all filmmakers, Nintendo needs you to Make Their Video!
No, this isn't the long anticipated sequel to the Sega CD's Make My Video series. This is Nintendo's Short Cuts Showcase, a new contest from Nintendo where you can submit your own film shorts for a chance to win fame and prizes.
Read on for contest details and a few entry ideas!
The Nintendo Short Cuts contest challenges amateur movie makers to create a 3-5 minute movie based on Nintendo or one of their creations. The film can feature any theme you want, drama, adventure, romantic comedy, or rock opera, as long as it revolves around Nintendo in some way.
The top three movies will be shown at the Rockefeller Center’s Summer Film Showcase in New York City this June. The winner of this contest will be flown to New York to be a part of the Showcase, and receive a Wii, a DS Lite, $10,000, and a meeting with Craig Hatkoff of the Tribeca Film Festival. Second and third place winners will have their films shown at the festival and some sweet Nintendo swag.
Go to nintendoshortcuts.com for contest information and rules, and be sure to have your entry in by June 6th.
Do you want to enter this contest but are having trouble thinking of what kind of movie to make? Don't worry, we're here to help! The PG Screenwriters Guild has come up with some suggestions to help get those moviemaking juices flowing.
Shaq-Fu:
When it comes to movies, nobody does it better than Shaq. His epic films have won worldwide acclaim and countless awards. His video game, Shaq-Fu, has had similar success, topping nearly every Greatest Games of All Time list.
A Shaq-Fu themed film is sure to please the judges, just make sure you're basing it off of the SNES version and not the Genesis one.
Ouendan!:
Ouendan is all the rage these days. With the newest game in the series just days away, it couldn't be a better time to take advantage of Ouendan fever by making a video featuring everyone's favorite superhero cheerleaders.
Legend of Zelda Music Video:
If there's one thing that Nintendo loves, it's a big dance number starring Link and friends. Over the years, a number of Zelda ads have featured singing and dancing. Some sort of epic Thriller-style music video starring the Zelda crew would almost guarantee a first place finish.
(This also gives us an excuse to post our favorite video ever, the Link to the Past dance!)
That's all for now, we hope these suggestions help get those creative juices flowing. Good luck to all entrants, and we look foreword to seeing the winning videos next month!
