« Top 10 Nintendo Related Stories Of 2007? | Main | PG Blog - Best Articles of 2007: Part Two »
Presents have been shredded. The egg nog keg has been tapped. The sugar plums are no longer dancing. You know what that means? It's time for the annual Pinky G Awards. This is where the wise elders of Pink Godzilla select the Best of 2007 for a number of gaming related categories.
Who will take home the coveted Pinky G Award this year? Will Jake of 8bitjoystick.com retain his Pimp of the Year title? Continue reading to find out.
Import Game of the Year
Winner:
Moero Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2. With even zanier scenarios and characters and an impressive song list, the addictive rhythm game managed to outdo the original in every respect. Now where is our Ouendan for Wii, Nintendo?
Runner Up:
Taiko no Tatsujin DS. What can we say, we love the DS rhythm scene. Plus the two free bonus styluses...styli...whatever...make this choice a no brainer.
Blogger Of The Year
Winner:
Jake of 8bitjoystick.com for breaking the story of Bungie splitting from Microsoft. Seriously, who saw this coming? What began as perhaps yet another internet message board rumor soon had industry news outlets putting their feet squarely in their mouths.
Runner Up:
Colette Bennett of Destructoid for describing her discovery of Pink Godzilla as "an orgasmic version of my death." We honestly can't think of a better description for Pink Godzilla.
Ouendan Spirit Award
Winner:
MC 117 for his spirited vocals at Pinkapalooza. Keep watching after the unfortunate failure - impressive jams are kicked out shortly after.
Runner Up:
Alex for his awesome Ouendan cosplay. Remember kids, Ouendan cosplay is not just gradually awesome - it's automatically awesome, teetering on jawsome.
TGS Award for Special Achievement in the Field of Mediocre to Laughably Bad Cosplay:
Like we said before, the picture speaks for itself. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
PG Swag of the Year
Winner:
Pink Godzilla Dev Kit. The PG Dev Kit enjoyed a meteoric rise to the forefront of card game history this year. From PAX to Sakuracon to even Deutschland, where there were games, the Dev Kit was sure to follow. Pick it up and catch the fever - who knows, maybe you'll be the big winner in the next big Dev Kit tourney for fame and prizes. Everyone's makin' videogames. Why not you?
Runner Up:
Tie. The Pink Godzilla plush, with its veil of mystery, is an instant classic. However, there's no beating the old standby, the Pink Godzilla thong.
Retro Game of the Year
Winner:
Segata Sanshiro Shinken Yugi. The only game that will grow ten times its size, deflect a missile into the sun, and then disguise itself as Santa Claus to judo flip zombies in the disco. Guaranteed.
Runner Up:
Sin and Punishment. A sublime rail shooter, and a gem in the N64's library. But does it have the pure masculine allure to frolic with the herione of Sakura Taisen in a flower petal dreamland? Sadly, no. So we had to give it to Segata Sanshiro. Plus if we didn't he would beat us within an inch of our puny lives.
Customer of the Year
Last year we gave the award to you. But this year one particular customer has risen above the rest...
Winner:
Hefeweizen Ben for showing his love for PG by buying the staff a case of beer, rocking hard on the vocals and cutting a rug at Pinkapalooza and volunteering for Sakuracon. Wow. Talk about an over-achiever. Truth be told, you had us at beer.
Runner Up
You. Although you were unable to defend the title, you put up a tough fight. But now that you know what you need to compete, you know what to do. I'll give you a hint - it rhymes with shmiskey. Up the ante, people!
Most Legendary Use of a Cowbell
Winner:
Kristjan and his legendary exploration of the space at Nectar combined with his energetic pelvic thrusting. Our fever was cured, prescription filled. We were wearing golden diapers by the end of the night! True story.
Runner-up:
Danjamin, for keeping up with the cowbell through an excrutiatingly long Bowie number. Seriously, from all the commercials that use this song you would think it only lasts thirty seconds.
Retro Gaming Mascot of the Year
Winner
Segata Sanshiro. With his triumphant roar of (loosely translated) "DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE BUT PLAY SEGA SATURN, EVER, OR I WILL FIND YOU", Segata Sanshiro stands head and shoulders above the competition. And then throws the competition into the sun after judo chopping their faces off.
Runner Up
Tron Guy. DOES NOT COMPUTE.
Pinky G Events of the Year:
Winner:
Pinkapalooza. A late entry to the category, Pinkapalooza managed to bring gamers together to rock out for Child's Play into the wee hours, raising a ton of money for charity and giving us some legendary Rock Band performances.
Runner-Up:
Pinky G at PAX. PAX is the biggest gamer party of the year, and PG was there to provide a booth that is the highlight of the show. The Pinkathon and Dev Kit tournaments were awesome, and the blinding pinkness of the booth even managed to draw people in despite the Rockstar booth blocking the view.
That about wraps it up for this year's Pinky G awards - tune in next year when we'll hopefully giving away awards for best flying car, or meal served entirely in pill form. Until then!

you'd kinda think having more knowledge than some PG staff members (or whoever writes the blog...) would garner something...but eh...

There is always next year. And with comments like that you're setting yourself up nicely for the wise ass of the year award for 2008.

call me a wise ass, but I think the MSX/Mark III and Super Famicom/Famicom Ms Peach World incidents speak for themselves.
