As we revealed last week, Pink Godzilla is working on bringing Dev Kit to the masses via Xbox Live Arcade. With everyone makin' videogames these days, we could hardly sit idle any longer. After all, we created the Dev Kit, how could we not create a videogame. It would almost be hypocritical not to. So we did. And did we so.
We've decided to remove the shroud of mystery that often surrounds the development of a videogame (we're looking at you Nintendo), and have asked the developer, Enlark, to provide you with regular updates throughout the development cycle. Hopefully, they'll also tease us all with a screenshot now and again.
Continue reading for Enlark's developer diary - part 1.
From the developer:
Greetings! I'm Max Battcher, a Software Engineer from Louisville, Kentucky working for a small startup named Enlark. I'm the lead on the effort to bring the beloved Pink Godzilla Dev Kit gaming experience from the table to the vast intertubes via select electronic gaming systems. I'm very excited to be involved in this videogame adaptation of a card game about making videogames. Yes, I am making a videogame about a card game about making videogames in which you will be playing a videogame that is actually a card game abot making videogames. Chew on that one a bit. It's delicious.
A lot of work has been put into this project, and there still seems to be a lot more work left to do, but I was asked to take a quick break and promote some of the progress so far.
Let's start with the automaticaly awesome: Dev Kit is playable over a network amongst and between Windows PCs and Xbox 360s.
Now for the less than automatically awesome: there are bugs, there are bells and whistles to be implemented (we're trying to nail down the perfect BGM for when one enters the Joe Zone - we're currently in contract negotiations with John L. Williams) and there's business deals to be made (you wouldn't believe how much "Joe Zone" Joe wants to charge us to use his likeness in the game), but we're heading in the right direction.
Right now the big deadline on the horizon is this year's Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). The goal is to have Dev Kit Online playable at PAX and in the best possible shape we can achieve between now and then. I can think of no greater a gathering of gamers, or...gulp...greatest cadre of critics (Gabe and Tycho included), for the first big public demonstration of the game. With nervous anticipation, I eagerly await this opportunity for a wide variety of
player feedback. With too few weeks until PAX, I think I better get back to work.
Be sure to check back for more Dev Kit Online related news as I hope to provide consistent updates of the progress from alpha to beta and beyond.
