Today, Capcom announced that they have sold over 1 million copies of the Resident Evil 4 remake for the Wii. While the Resident Evil series may be the cream of the crop when it comes to survival horror games, Capcom didn't invent the horror genre. In fact, Nintendo's 8-bit consoles were rife with horror games such as Castlevania, Friday the 13th and Yo Noid.

Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti
Published by Namco
Released in Japan
Splatterhouse for the Famicom is a super deformed variant of the famous Turbo Grafx 16 game of the same name. A grieving damsel weeps at your grave when suddenly a bolt of lightning strikes, resurrecting you from your grave. The damsel becomes excited or terrified at the appearance of your ceremonial burial headdress, which closely resembles an old-school hockey mask made famous by Jason. Before you can reveal to the damsel that this was all just a Porky's graveyard prank, another bolt of lightning strikes. From the neighboring grave, your nemesis Giant Flying Pumpkin Man also rises and kidnaps the damsel. So grab that giant meat cleaver and embark on a B-horror adventure filled with parodies of famous horror movie moments.
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker was not the first game to feature the king of pop's signature dance moves. Best we can tell, that distinction belongs to Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti. Watch the video to see Dracula...or is that supposed to be Michael... dance the Thriller.
Akumajou Special Boku Dracula-kun
Published by Konami
Released in Japan
Many gamers praise Akumajou Dracula X for the PC Engine as being one of the greatest Castlevania games of all time. The scariest, though? That distinction clearly belongs to Akumajou Special Boku Dracula-kun. Why? Remember the Exorcist, The Omen, Pet Cemetary or The Shining? There is nothing that induces sleepless nights more than creepy demon children. Now imagine a white-haired, dual-fanged, 5-year old Dracula in high waters who uses the suffix "kun." Oh, the horror.
In all seriousness, Akumajou Special is considered one of the more difficult Castlevania games and is praised for its excellent sountrack, which contains remixes of popular Castlevania tracks. Check this game out if you need something to do to stay awake all Halloween night so that Freddy doesn't get you!
One, two lil' Drac's comin' for you.
Three, four better lock your door.
Five, six grab a Generation Nex.
Seven, eight better stay up late
Nine, ten play Akumajou Special Boku Dracula-kun until the break of dawn because if your not playing the Sega Saturn there is always the chance that Segata Sanshiro might show up and beat down any undead terrors that might be lurking in the shadows.
Devil World

The only Miyamoto game never to be released stateside, Devil World is a frightful affair. You take the role of a globular demon-ghost who must vanquish the Devil from each level. Your success depends on being able to use a cross to gobble pellets while avoiding pink cyclopses. The cross can also be used to burn the souls of the pink cyplopses and temporarily send them to....where ever it is you go when you die in hell. For added horror, collect the ice cream cones for bonus points! Devil World is simply the scariest Pac-Man clone ever made. Play it alone if you dare....
Finally, the following video is not for the faint of heart. Uncle Jackson does some ghastly things with a tortilla in a Mexican Cantina in Germany as he wishes Pinky G and friends a happy Halloween. Trick or Treat!
