Pink Godzilla just returned from the world's largest gaming convention in Germany where much Dev Kit was played. While the goal of the trip was to introduce the Germans to the wonders of makin' videogames Pinky G style, as it turns out Elder Taragan and Matsu were the ones to receive the education as some interesting rules questions were raised by those clever Doitsu-jin.
Take notice! Especially those of you who are envious of Elder Taragan's mad Dev Kit skills and accuse him of changing the rules without notice...especially you Number Johnny 209. The rules below the fold shall apply to all games from this point forward.
The Sniper
Card Text: For all auctions of three cards, after bids are revealed turn over a card from the draw deck, subtract two from the value, and add the remainder to your bid.
Question: What happens to the card you flip if you lose the auction? Do you get to keep it or is it discarded?
Official Answer: You get to keep it! The instruction manual explicitly states, "The losing bidders keep their bid cards and put them back in their hand." Since the card you flip is part of your bid, it is discarded if you win the auction but it becomes a nice consolation prize if you lose the auction.
Implications: More often than not the card you flip is an inconsequential 2-point Required Gear card, etc., but every now and then a Guardian is revealed. So play The Sniper card early and auction, auction, auction. Just like eBay, you never know what treasures you'll uncover.
Holiday Rush
Card Text: During your Development Phase, discard to play up to 6 cards, including this card.
Question: With the help of the Good Guardian, can you play Holiday Rush twice in one turn to play 12 cards in one Development Phase.
![]()
Official Answer: Sure, why not. Of course you may be wondering how anyone could ever play 12 cards in one turn when there is a 7-card hand limit. Remember, the rule is that you can't have more than 7 cards in your hand at the end of your turn. And through auctions and Clone bonus cards it is possible to start your Development Phase with more than 7 cards in your hand. So if you just happen to have a ton of cards in your hand and are holding both Holiday Rush and the Good Guardian, go crazy and use Holiday Rush twice in one turn to maybe finish two or three videogames.
Implications: To pull off this maneuver would really require the perfect storm. It isn't often that you begin your Development Phase with a ton of cards in your hand while holding both Holiday Rush and the Good Guardian.
Be warned. Failure to follow these new rules will result in the immediate dispatch of the Wii-Boxin' Dev Kit Ninja and his two-fingers-of-fury ninjutsu.
