We have huge news to report from the Dev Kit world today as the single game high score record has been broken! This last weekend, history was made as the previous Dev Kit record was shattered not once, but twice in the same game! The new world record holder is Dev Kit veteran and PG video star Cheatum, who defeated Elder Goban in an epic match by a score of 233-215.
Cheatum's amazing score of 233 smashes the old record of 209, which was held by PG's Elder Taragan. Elder Goban's losing score of 215 also beat the old record. This amazing game has rewritten the record books and introduced a couple new zones to the Dev Kit universe.
Read on for the full story of this history making event!
Cheatum's record breaking performance occurred last Sunday at a special invitational event held high atop one of West Seattle's high rises. After a night of carousing and revelry, the scene turned serious as the Dev Kit cards were broken out and challenges issued. The main event was a grudge match between bitter rivals Elder Goban and Cheatum.
In the first match, Goban was victorious, soundly beating Cheatum by a score of 158-101. Cheatum immediately demanded a rematch, and the two gladiators faced off once again.
The second match was to be played to 5 completed games. Wagers were made by both sides with Goban betting a six-pack of Dom Pérignon and Cheatum putting up a can of finely aged Billy Beer from his wine cellar. Trash was talked, threats were made, and the greatest game of all time began.
Cheatum started quickly, dropping a 34 point title right off the bat and following up with a pair of 30 point games. Goban started slowly, but recovered well enough to stun Cheatum with a monster 42 point game. Both competitors finished their fourth game, one short of the magic number 5 that would finish the match.
Elder Goban finished his fifth title, but was hesitant to close the deal. Although he could finish his fifth game, which would net him a cool 15 bonus points, Cheatum's games were worth much more. Goban opted to leave his 5th game open and continue, trying for a 6th game.
However, Goban's gambit did not pay off as Cheatum swiftly completed a fifth game. It looked as though Cheatum was ready to end the match, but he now had a decision to make. Although he had a clear points advantage, Goban had dropped Extra Lives in his previous turn. Cheatum also knew that Goban held many cards in his hand, including Corporate Espionage, and that Sarken had already been played as a character in an earlier finished game. Cheatum could not risk ending the game and seeing Goban steal victory from him with some of his patented Extra Lives magic. Cheatum decided to leave his fifth game open and continue to try to build his score.
The game went into overtime as the two competitors tried to gain the advantage with a quickly depleting stack of cards. Both Cheatum and Goban finished a sixth game, but refused to end the match. Like two titans locked in an eternal Cold War, the Dev Kit opponents would not give in until they were sure they had the final advantage. Both sides finished a seventh game, and then an eighth. The available cards dwindled to single digits, and it was clear that something had to give.
Elder Goban decided that it was time to finish the marathon game and closed his unfinished titles. His vaunted Extra Lives/Corporate Espionage combo allowed him to steal 4 points from Cheatum but did nothing more. A nervous crowd watched breathlessly as the points were tallied up. Goban's gambit had netted him a personal best 215 points, which broke Elder Taragan's old record. (Goban had initially added up his score wrong, giving himself only 205 points. This was not the first time he had try to screw himself over with shoddy math.) It was then time to add up Cheatum's points. A hush fell as the points were tallied, and then tallied again. The crowd then erupted as the final score was posted, an amazing 233, 24 points better than the old record.
Cheatum was hoisted into the air by the crowd (which was no small task) and paraded around the venue. The old record had fallen and in it's place was an unbeatable new standard. Dev Kit enthusiasts everywhere hailed this contest as the greatest one on one match of all time.
This great game also introduced the Dev Kit universe to two new zones. Every Dev Kit aficionado already knows about the Joe Zone, an empty void in which no points can escape. There is also the Steve Zone, which lies just outside the Joe Zone, on the fringes of the vortex. And lastly, there is the Paine Zone, which had been the rarefied air of 209 points.
However, when news of Cheatum's accomplishment got out, the Paine Zone suddenly vaporized, fading away into nothingness. The empty space where it previously resided was then filled by an even larger and more impressive entity, known as the Cheatum Zone. The new Cheatum Zone is said to be so luminescent, that it can only be viewed by those who have scored more than 210 points.
The other new zone that came about thanks to the great game is the Goban Zone. This unfortunate place can be visited when someone scores more than 150 points and yet still manages to lose the game. Goban has been a frequent visitor of this place, most notably in the game that netted Taragan his original 209 point record.
The repercussions of this exciting event are still being felt throughout the Dev Kit world. But there are still unanswered questions. Will Taragan try to reclaim his lost crown? Will Goban finally win a big match? Will Cheatum ever show up to a Dev Kit League event? For these answers and many others, stay tuned to Pink Godzilla, your #1 source for breaking Dev Kit news!

Ummmm....hate to be the bearer of bad news here boys, but I'm definitely calling shenanigans on this one. Let me break it down.
First, an official Dev Kit match is played to four games, not five.
Second, Elder Taragan created the Paine Zone by developing only four games, not eight. Eight games completed and you only scored 230 points?!?!? Big whoop.
Third, there was no officially sanctioned Dev Kit match in West Seattle on Sunday. For a high score to ount, it must be achieved at an officially sanctioned event such as a tournament or a convention. Only Billy Mitchell submits high scores he achieved in some shady, dimly lit apartment. Are you Billy Mitchell?
To recap the Cheatum Zone is for cheaters who change the rules of the game to maximize their score for five minutes of fame. Pathetic.
And the Goban Zone...well we can keep that one. It does seem as though he's scored at least 150 points on quite a few occasions only to lose.

You know, I don't think anyone's ever seen Optimus and Cheatum together at the same time. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Hey Look who is talking about changing the rules Taragan I like how you need to break it down when it is your score being broken.
First the other player in your game said you also made more than four to beat him by using extra lives.
Two the game in which you set the record of 209 was also not a league match but that doesn't stop you from posting it on your signature. Three ever since this story broke I have heard nothing but praise from the millions of Cheatum fans across the country you may try to kill this fact with other articals but what happened on Sunday the 6/22/2008 will live on forever.
