10 Songs Red Octane Needs To Consider

By now, everyone knows that Guitar Hero II is set to launch next week. And all the PGsatori have without a doubt downloaded the track list onto their ipods and have spent the last two weeks practicing imagined key combos on their 5-button plastic guitar. Although, Red Octane has undoubtedly done a superb job so far of selecting its tracks there are always fans who are muttering amongst themselves, "How could they leave out _______?"

To fuel the debate, Pink Godzilla has compiled a list of ten songs that would be killer to play in the new multi-player modes, which feature simulataneous guitar and bass action. There might be a few songs with better guitar solos, but these songs represent the total package.

10. Drunk Horse - The Bitch is Bach

One of the best bands you will ever have the privilege of catching live, Drunk Horse will rock your socks to Delridge and back with their monstrous no holds barred guitar riffs. Just watch the video and learn, son.

9. Judas Priest - Electric Eye Live

Judas Priest ruled the crazy world of 80's heavy metal world with a vengeance, and a great example of this is their song from the classic 1982 album, "Screaming for Vengeance". There will never be another band more metal than what you will find in this clip. Look at how Rob Halford appears on stage, singing in the hand of a robot! .

8. Refused - New Noise

If you still have not heard Refused's 1998 Magnum Opus, "The Shape of Punk to Come", you need to do yourself a favor and find this CD today.  Somewhere in the world right now, this album is destroying someone's speakers, and it is good.  Can I scream?

7. Beastie Boys - Sabotage

Listen all ya'll, it's the Beastie Boys rawkin' ya with this hot cut from their 1994 "Ill Communication" LP.  This song takes to b boys back to their hardcore roots, when all they used were Guitar, Bass, a Drum Kit and lot of noise and New York City punk attitude.

6. Mercyful Fate - Egypt

King Diamond is called "the Mariah Carey of Metal" by some for his amazing falsetto for which he uses to tell a horror story in almost every song he records. Just listen to this Danish master of story telling and he shall weave you a yarn about...ancient Egypt? Whatever makes you happy, duder.

5. AC\DC - Whole Lotta Rosie

Quick fact : 19 Stone = (approximately 266 pounds/120.655 kilograms)
Australia's original bad boys of rock recorded this signature song for their 1977 "Let there be Rock" LP, and it has been played at all their concerts since then for good reason. Whole Lotta Rosie is an all time AC/DC fan favorite, yes, even more so than "Back In Black".

4. Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Eurovision Live)

Americans in general usually don't care about the yearly Eurovision contest held across the Atlantic, but this year's winners were very, uh, unique to say the least and caught the attention of many. Lordi won this year's Eurovision contest for Finland with their hit song, "Hard Rock Hallelujah" from their album, "The Arockalypse".

3. 3 Inches of Blood - Destroy the Orcs

Canada's own masters of metal, 3 Inches of Blood sounds like a blend of classic Iron Maiden meets classic Judas Priest meets that table of kids who played Dungeons and Dragons during lunch hour in high school with a dash of King Diamond for flavor. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool and serve with a side of serious rock. Roll your 20 sided die afterwards for a saving throw against burning.

2. Budgie - Breadfan

This Welsh trio from the 70s have never been truly given their due in the music world, but many artists seem to love playing Budgie songs at their concerts, including Federation X. This song was covered by the mighty Metallica for their Garage Days EP years ago, but of course nothing beats the original. 1970's riff rock at it's finest, folks!

1. Sloan - Money City Maniacs

Finally we have Halifax's hometown favorites, Sloan, with 1998's "Money City Maniacs." This song has been used at many Canadian hockey games as a player's entrance song and is great to listen to while drinking a 6-pack of beer. This song represents everything great about rock and roll, baby.

There you have it, ten songs that would totally rock in a future version of Guitar Hero.  Be sure to come and check out all the fun Saturday, November 11th @ 8 P.M. at Pink Godzilla for the Guitar Hero II Launch Party! All the details can be found right here. Red Octane is helping us bring you this event and is part of the Guitar Hero Official Underground League, or G.H.O.U.L. for short. See you there!
