Sengoku Cannon (PSP)

Blog.Sengoku.Cannon.box.jpgSengoku Cannon is the latest installment in a rich heritage of sexy shooters. Back in the day, there was Sexy Parodius, Steam Hearts and Cho Aniki. And now there is Sengoku Cannon, a side scrolling shooter in which you take flight as a scantily clad female samurai armed with what else...? Giant bazookas, of course.

Let's see what Pinky G and Jumpman have to say about this sexy shooter from Psikyo.

.

What kind of game is that?
It looks like an old school shooter - like somethin’ you might find on the PC Engine. I think it’s called Sengoku Cannon.
Did you say old school? I love old school! What are you flying around in? Some sort of high-tech rocket ship with giant cannons?
I’d say it looks more like a half-naked samurai chick with giant bazookas?
Give me that PSP! What are half-naked ladies doing in an old-school shooter?!?!?!
Don’t be so grabby.
Let’s see here…We’ve got flying samurai…
Check!
…with serious cleavage…
Check that!
…shooting lasers…
Ooooooh, lasers.
…at leather-clad women surrounded in spikes…
Damn! She’s nippin’. What does this game take place in the Arctic or somethin’?
I don’t see how any of this is old school!!!!!!
Yep, me neither. Now give me back my PSP so I can see what happens after I defeat the Great Nipply One with my lasers! I’m gonna just go over there and enjoy this one all by myself for a minute.
Suit yourself. I’ll do the review by myself then. In Sengoku Cannon, you start off by selecting one of up to four flying samurai warriors. Each character has its own unique attributes and weapon types. For example, Ms. Cleavage shoots what appear to be cards and the fellow that looks like the Governator shoots arrows as their respective primary weapons.
Hee, hee. Hee, hee, hee. This game’s rad!
Once you’ve selected your character, then you choose your difficulty setting. All the menus are very navigable as they are all written in English. I’d suggest going with the easy mode to start. It’s good to get your feet wet before jumping into a crazy shooter like this one. After selecting the difficulty setting, you are off to the races.
Yippee! I love this game.
Hey, Pinky G! If you’re not going to help with the review, then you can at least keep it down over there.
Sorry.
Ahem…Now once you’re in the game, the rules are pretty much the same as any other shooter - dodge the projectiles! I hope you’ve got good eyes, though, because the sprites in this game are tiny.
Yeah, no kiddin’! I’m havin’ pink of a time trying to review the “bosom bounce factor.”
Zip it! Once you’ve located your tiny little samurai on the screen, then it is up to you to dispose of your enemies in short order by employing your arsenal of four weapons. You start with your: standard gun; rapid fire gun, which slows your characters movement down; cannon shot, which does ten times the damage of the standard gun; and super move. Your limited in you number of super moves, so use them wisely. They are the most useful when the screen is filled with enemies and projectiles since one push of the “X” Button will make everything go away while you lay down a temporary carpet of pain for those unfortunate souls that dare challenge your authority.
Pinky BEA~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~M!
The way you rack up points in Sengoku Cannon is by using the cannon shot, which will cause your enemies to drop coins. The more coins they drop, the more points you get.
Bazooka blast…………Jackpot!
I think Pinky G is getting the hang of it. Although extremely powerful and lucrative, the problem with the cannon shot is that it is slow to recharge, leaving you vulnerable until you can rip off your next shot.
Pink it! I died again. Pink straight I wanna continue!
Of course, if you lose all of your extra lives, you can just select continue, and the action picks up right where you left off. Unfortunately, there are an unlimited amount of continues, which pretty much kills any challenge that the game presents.
Pinky BEA~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~M! Yes, I beat it!
You beat the game?!?!?
That was awesome! I wanna play again with a different character. This time I’m gonna up the ante with a higher difficulty setting. I need to know what those two secret characters look like.
There you have it. Just like Ikaruga or Shikigami No Shiro, Sengoku Cannon is short but sweet. Thankfully, the variety of selectable characters and difficulty settings should keep you coming back for more. Now if this game only had a multi-player mode.
Mmmmmm…..Yes, I can see it now. It can’t get much betta’ than TWO scantily clad samurai ladies zipping around the screen together!
