PG Approved Halloween Costumes: 2007 Edition Part 2

Last week we showcased a few can't miss gaming themed costumes for Halloween. Our sources tell us that the weekend's Halloween parties were a smashing success, full of Noids, Tingles, and Tron Guys.

If you didn't get in on the costume action last weekend, there is still one chance to show your gamer pride. Wednesday is Halloween proper and the last day of the year that it will be socially acceptable to walk down the street in skintight spandex while wielding a comically large sword.

If you're still searching for that perfect outfit for trick-or-treating, we're here to help. Our distinguished panel of cosplay scholars have saved our three best costume ideas for last. Today we'll share with you our favorite dress-up ideas for this years Halloween in the last part of PG Approved Halloween Costumes.

Part 1: We Love Katamari Costumes!

It's a scientific fact that everyone loves Katamari. The King of all Cosmos and his crazy family have rolled their way into the elite group of gamings favorite franchises. Their latest adventure, Beautiful Katamari, has just landed on the XBox 360.

As much fun as it is rolling a giant sticky ball around on your TV screen, it would be even better doing it in real life. A little Katamari LARPing is the perfect way to spend Halloween night. Here's a step by step guide to a successful Katamari Halloween.

Your first step is to get get your own King of all Cosmos. The King is the most important part of your Katamari Crew. His job is to sit back and order the smaller members of your group to roll a giant sphere around for his amusement. Because it's Halloween, the rollers will be probably be picking up candy with their Katamari. At the end of the night, it will be the King's responsibility to take the giant candy ball and either turn it into some sort of celestial body or simply eat the sugary bounty.
The other part of your Katamari team will be the Prince and his cousins. These guys will be the grunt labor part of the party. Their job will be to push the ball around their neighborhood and collect Halloween candy. Because the King is impatient and hungry, the rollers will have a limited time to collect enough goodies to satisfy their ruler.
Now that you've got the Royal Family, the last part of this setup is the Katamari itself. We suggest starting with a smallish Katamari, not much bigger than the Prince. Remember that the Katamari will pick up anything it touches so be sure to avoid anything that isn't carrying tasty candy. Other trick-or-treaters are a great source of candy, we suggest finding a busy neighborhood full of them and rolling your Katamari right down the sidewalk. With any luck, you'll be able to roll up enough kids to satisfy the King's unreasonable demands and have enough time left over to snag some candy for yourself.

Part 2: Pac-O-Lanterns!

Our second costume showcase features the king of retro gaming mascots, Pac-Man!. Pac-Man was gaming's first mascot and is arguably the most recognizable character in the gaming world.

Much like Katamari, Pac-Man is a great game to bring to life. All you need is a couple friends, some ghost costumes, and a few thousand little round pellets.

For this LARPing adventure, you'll need a Pac-Man (or Ms. Pac-Man) and up to 4 ghosts. You better start on those costumes right away, Pac-Man and the Ghosts are among the most elaborate and difficult costumes to make.

Before you hit the streets for trick-or-treating, be sure to seed the sidewalks with little round candies. These will play the part of Pac-Man's favorite snack, Power Pellets. Because it will be Halloween, nobody will think twice about seeing mystery candy laying on the street. When the big night comes, send Pac-Man out into a crowd of children, then release the ghosts.

Part 3: The greatest costume of them all. Segata Sanshiro!

In all of the long and storied history of gaming, none stand higher than Segata Sanshiro. Segata was the epitome of terror in late 90's Japan. Any unfortunate children who dared to ignore the joy of playing Sega Saturn were taught a lesson in pain by Segata. In Japanese arcades, lucky survivors trade tales of their run-ins with the defender of the Saturn.

To pull off a convincing Segata, you will need an old worn Karate outfit, a 4 foot wide Sega Saturn, a matching giant Saturn controller, and a desire to punish all who dare to ignore the greatness of the Saturn. On Halloween night, strap on your giant Saturn and find a group of young trick-or-treaters. Once you are in the midst of these young people, separate the ones who are not dressed as their favorite Saturn characters and the proceed to pummel them into submission as a lesson to those who dare to do something other than bask in the Saturn's warming glow. It may be necessary to visit the nonbelievers again to make sure that they've learned their lessons. If you've followed our guide properly, this will be the last Halloween ever held because everyone will spend next October 31st at home, playing their new Sega Saturn.

We hope that these helpful ideas have put you in the trick-or-treating spirit. Now go out there and make us all proud with your excellent gaming costumes! (Don't forget to bring a Saturn controller to ward off any traveling karate masters.) And be sure to check back next year for yet another installment of PG Approved Halloween Costumes.

So why does everyone get "loose" when the Segata card is played. Shouldn't that be the Kevin Bacon card as in everyone get's Foot Loose. You would think that if you play the Segata Sanshiro Card everyone would automatically "lose" because Segata is automatically awesome.
