The first annual PAX Dev Kit Tournament has come and gone. Games were made, clones were cloned, and a new Dev Kit world champion, Rick the Enforcer, was crowned. Also, the world was introduced to what had previously been a closely guarded secret of the PG Elders, the Joe Zone.
What is the Joe Zone? And why do you want to avoid it at all costs? Join us below the break for the story behind the Joe Zone and exclusive video footage of the PAX Dev Kit Tourney.
As you may have noticed from that helpful video tutorial, the Joe Zone is reached when a player scores 0 points in a game of Dev Kit. Yes, you read that right, no points. As any Dev Kit expert can tell you, it is extremely difficult to finish a full game and not score any points. Even playing just one Special Ability card will get you 4 points at the end of a game. It takes a special combination of luck and skill to reach the Joe Zone.
The Joe Zone was first reached during play testing of the final version of the Dev Kit. It was discovered by a Dev Kit veteran known only as Joe. Joe reported his findings to the Elders, who could not believe that such a place could even exist. The Elders tried to recreate this improbable feat, but despite their best efforts they could not manage to score zero points in a game. The mysterious Joe was summoned and asked to demonstrate how he had found this enigmatic zone. Much to the surprise of the Elders, Joe successfully duplicated his zero point Dev Kit experience and the legend of the Joe Zone was born!
Tales of the discovery of the Joe Zone soon spread throughout the PG universe and Joe was hailed as the Christopher Columbus of Dev Kit. So far, only 3 sightings of the Joe Zone have been confirmed, with the latest occurrence taking place at this year's PAX tournament. Many have tried to retrace Joe's steps, only to find themselves unwittingly scoring points and thus falling short of the Joe Zone standard.
With the Dev Kit Tournament season right around the corner, will there be more sightings of the Joe Zone? Stay tuned to find out!

It's funny, every time I hear this story I am credited with two findings of the Joe Zone. Sadly, I cannot say that is true, but as they say history is written by the victors so I'll have to take your word for it. Nice article, nonetheless. ;)
