DEVELOPMENT PHASE
With my Purchase Phase behind me, I can now begin developing a videogamegame.
Alright! I've been waiting for the Development Phase!
Me too. The Development Phase is where you take your actions. Basically each developer gets to play two cards (unless they have a special ability that lets them play more).
Now, does that only apply to cards that you use to develop your videogame? I noticed that some of the cards give you the option to "discard" them in order to activate special powers...
Good observation! Some Character Cards, Power Up cards, and others will do something if you discard them. Unless it specifically says "Free Play" or is designed to be used out of turn, discarding a card does count as one of your 2 plays. This is also the case if you want to bring a Special Ability Card into play.
So if a Special Ability Card is in your hand, it doesn't take effect until you "play" it and lay it down on the play field?
Exactly! For example, if you look at your hand, you've got the Special Ability Card "Market Power". The effects described on the card only take effect after you've played the card. But, Special Ability Cards are with you throughout the whole game, so once it's played, the Special Ability is there for good.
hmmm....
One other thing about Special Ability Cards. Because they stay with you until the game ends, the point value of all Special Ability Cards that you have played will count towards your final score. We'll uh, we'll talk about points and scoring, um, later... Are you paying attention? What are you doing?
Oh nothing. Go ahead and play your cards.
Um, alright. So As you can see, I've decided to forego playing either of my Special Ability Cards, and instead play two videogame cards, a blue RPG Title Card and a blue Potion Required Gear Card.
"Secret of Eldermore", eh? I like the occasional RPG, but I'm more of a dancing man!
Yes, well we'll see what kind of videogame you make soon enough.
Oh yes we will. Speaking of which, it's almost my turn, isn't it? We only have one more phase to go.
It's true folks, you can teach an old sprite new tricks!
Har har.
Er, you're right Jumpy old pal. All that's left is the Going Gold Phase, then it's your turn. Are you ready?
Bring it!
