PURCHASE PHASE
Alright, now that I've received my draw card, I move into the Purchase Phase. Now, here's where the choices begin.
Ok, so this is where you have a chance to get a card you want from the Resource Row, right?
Right. When your Purchase Phase begins, you can do one of three things: you can trade one or more cards from your hand for one of the cards in the Resource Row, you can auction up to three cards in the Resource Row, or you can do nothing.
Auction? How does that work?
Well, let's say you see two cards you want in the Resource Row. You can take a risk and put those cards up for auction, but you have to be careful, because when you declare an auction you open up the cards to all players, so if someone wants one of the cards you chose they might outbid you.
Alright, let's do that auction thing!
Um, no.
Oh come on!
No. I thought you haven't played this before?
I haven't, I just wanted to yoink your cards hehe!
Ooookay, so anyways, for this first round, I'm just going to trade for a card. Since I just drew a Title Card, I won't be needing the Blue RPG Title Card anymore. And since I can only use one potion for my Required Gear in the blue RPG videogame I'm going to develop, I will trade one of my Potion Required Gear Cards for the Combos Required Gear Card.
It's important to note that the point value of the two cards is the same. When you use your purchase phase to trade a card, you must meet or exceed the value of the card you want to trade for.
You mentioned that I can use more than one card to meet the point value?
I was just going to say that. If you see a 5 point card in the Resource Row that you want, you can trade one 5 point card, two 3 point cards, a 2 point and a 3 point card, however many cards you want as long as the total is equal to or greater than the value of the card you are trading for.
But I can only trade for one card, ok ok. So, what happens if I don't see any cards that I want in the Resource Row, and I don't want to do that auction thing?
In that case we discard the lowest point value cards from the Resource Row. In this case, it would be the 2 point Pixel Card. Two intersting things about "flushing" the cards: one, if there are multiple cards that share the lowest value then they all get flushed. And two, the cards don't get replaced until the next developer's finance phase.
I get the first one, but what's so important about the second one?
Take a look at the Power Up Card in the Resource Row.
...ohhh
Okay, I think that about wraps up the Purchase Phase. We'll go over the Auction process on my next turn, but for now let's move on to the Development Phase.
